A man serving a 15-year sentence in a Scottish prison for sex and domestic abuse has married behind bars in a ceremony that shocked many. Kenneth Quinn, 51, tied the knot with Brogan Quinn, 29, at Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow, according to a report by The Scottish Sun.
Quinn is convicted of violently abusing and rape his ex-wife, Carolyn Quinn, for decades. He repeatedly raped her, locked her naked outside, battered her, and even pushed her down concrete stairs when she was eight months pregnant.
Carolyn, now a well-known campaigner for domestic abuse victims, said she feels deep pity for Brogan. “He’s a predatory monster … he grooms vulnerable people who are easily manipulated,” she said.
Rape Accused Married in Prison
The wedding reportedly lasted about three hours inside the prison walls. Brogan wore a white dress, and bridesmaids stood by her side. She held a bouquet, and a “Just Married” sign adorned the back of her gown.
Prison staff allegedly allowed Quinn to be taken out of the “beast wing” — a high-risk area — just for the ceremony. This decision raised eyebrows.
Abuse Survivor Speaks Out
Carolyn couldn’t hide her concern for Brogan. She described Quinn as dangerous, manipulative, and cunning. “Who else in their right mind would marry a convicted rapist and abuser?” she asked.
She added that Quinn must have “groomed” Brogan — someone she said knew the real extent of his crimes. “I’m not surprised he’d gone and done this … he grooms vulnerable people,” Carolyn explained. But she also pointed out that, at least, he is locked up, so Brogan is physically safe.
How Brogan and Quinn Met
Kenneth and Brogan reportedly knew each other for four years before his conviction. Brogan is linked to a campaign called Justice for Innocent Men, which claims to support men falsely accused of sex offences.
Over time, she has shared romantic messages from Quinn, even after he went to jail. In one note, he called her “my princess” and wrote, “I love you so much … my heart is bleeding being apart from you.”
She has also defended their relationship publicly. After criticism online, she wrote: “Nobody deserves to be punished their whole life for a mistake.”
Past Crimes and Violence of Quinn
Quinn’s abuse of Carolyn spanned nearly three decades. He hit her with a dog lead and shoes. He shoved food at her, broke her arm, and caused her a devastating miscarriage.
During the trial, a judge condemned his behavior as “a catalogue of violent and controlling behaviour.” She said his actions caused serious harm and earned public condemnation.
Why This Marriage Matters
This marriage shines a harsh light on how power, manipulation, and vulnerability can play out — even when a predator is behind bars. It also highlights questions about how prisons manage inmates convicted of violent crimes.
For Brogan, the decision to marry her abuser has sparked controversy and support in equal measure. For Carolyn, it’s a reminder of the pain she endured. And for prison authorities, it’s yet another debate about inmate rights and rehabilitation — and how far those rights should extend.
