Einav Zangauker, the mother of hostage Matan Zangauker, has been barred from entering the Knesset due to what officials describe as “serious violations of order.” This decision comes in the wake of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, during which 251 hostages were taken, including her son.
Zangauker has emerged as a prominent advocate for securing the release of hostages held in Gaza. However, Knesset officials allege that she has repeatedly violated conduct rules, stating that her actions have disrupted committee discussions. According to a spokesperson for the Knesset, Zangauker attempted to throw a glass bottle at a guest and threatened to stab another individual in the presence of Knesset security personnel. “This is unacceptable behavior that cannot be allowed,” the statement read.
In response, Zangauker expressed her frustration, questioning the logic behind her exclusion from the Knesset. “How is it logical that my son was kidnapped on the watch of 120 Knesset members, and I don’t have the right to visit them in the building?” she asked, as reported by the Kan public broadcaster. She further criticized the Knesset, suggesting that its members are more focused on internal politics than on the plight of the kidnapped individuals.
The opposition leader of Yesh Atid, Yair Lapid, condemned the Knesset’s decision to restrict Zangauker’s access, calling it “disgraceful and shameful.” In a post on social media platform X, he urged Knesset members to listen to her concerns and work towards bringing her son back, rather than “playing the victim like a group of cowards.”
The situation highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the hostages taken during the Hamas attack and the challenges faced by their families in seeking justice and support from the government.
