China has firmly dismissed allegations made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that Beijing’s decision to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to the Victory Day parade was aimed at conspiring against the United States.

China’s Stand on Diplomacy

Responding to the accusations, foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stressed that China’s foreign policy is based on independent decision-making and not directed against any third country. “China’s development of diplomatic relations with any country is never directed against any third party,” Guo told reporters. Beijing, he said, values its partnerships with Moscow and Pyongyang but does not view them as tools to counter Washington.

Trump’s Sharp Message

Trump, in his Victory Day greeting to Beijing, raised questions about China’s acknowledgment of U.S. support during World War II. “The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against the United States of America,” Trump said.

He later confirmed watching the military parade, saying, “I thought it was very, very impressive, but I understood the reason they were doing it. And they were hoping I was watching and I was watching.”

Parade Sends a Strong Signal

The Beijing parade gained international attention when Xi Jinping, Putin, and Kim walked together, sending a symbolic message of unity. This display came at a sensitive time, with Washington and Beijing locked in a tariff war. Trump has already been facing criticism both at home and abroad over his economic and foreign policies.

Xi and Kim to Hold Rare Talks

The Chinese foreign ministry also confirmed that Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un will hold discussions during Kim’s rare overseas visit. “The two leaders will hold talks and have an in-depth exchange of views on China-DPRK relations and issues of common concern,” Guo Jiakun said, using the acronym DPRK. He added that “China is willing to work with the DPRK to strengthen strategic communication… deepen the exchange of experience in governance.”

This development recalls earlier moments when Beijing’s growing closeness with Pyongyang and Moscow alarmed Washington. In 2018, Xi Jinping hosted Kim Jong Un in China shortly before Kim’s historic meeting with Trump in Singapore. That visit signaled Beijing’s intent to remain a key player in Korean Peninsula diplomacy. Similarly, in 2019, Xi and Putin showcased their “no limits” partnership during the Belt and Road Forum, a move that Washington viewed as a challenge to its influence.

By inviting both leaders to Victory Day in 2025, China appears to be reinforcing those earlier signals that it is willing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Russia and North Korea, even as tensions with the United States intensify.

While Beijing insists the move is not directed against America, the imagery of Xi, Putin, and Kim together underscores shifting power alignments in Asia. For Washington, already dealing with economic strain from its tariff war with China, the spectacle reflects the challenge of managing three adversarial relationships at once.
