The condition of political activist and election hopeful Osman Hadi remains serious and unchanged a day after he was shot in a targeted attack in Dhaka. Medical updates say he is in an “extremely critical” state in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital, where a team of specialists is working to stabilize him as he suffers from severe brain injuries.

Osman Hadi Current Heath Status

Doctors managing his case have described his condition as “static,” meaning there has been no significant improvement or deterioration. They have stated that a definitive prognosis cannot be given until a crucial 72-hour observation period has passed. Hadi remains on ventilator support to assist his breathing due to an associated lung injury. While some unverified social media posts have claimed he is breathing on his own, the official medical board confirms he is still dependent on the ventilator.

What Are the Specific Injuries He Sustained?

The head gunshot wound caused the most serious injury. Although the bullet was surgically removed, it led to severe brain damage, particularly to the brainstem. This area controls vital functions like heart rate and blood pressure, which remain unstable. Along with the head injury, Hadi also suffered wounds to his chest and leg. Doctors are following a special brain protection protocol to prevent further harm.

Are There Any Positive Signs?

The medical team has noted some minor “internal responses” and minimal brain activity, which they cautiously view as a small positive sign. Furthermore, his kidney function has recovered and is being monitored, and a serious blood clotting issue (known as DIC) is now largely under control through continuous treatment and transfusions. However, doctors emphasize these points do not indicate he is out of danger, given the severity of the brain stem damage.

What Happened to Lead to This?

Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the spokesperson for the Islamist political platform Inqilab Moncho and an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot at close range on Friday, December 12. Two assailants on a motorcycle ambushed the e-rickshaw he was traveling in within the Bijoy Nagar area. Videos from CCTV cameras showing the brazen attack have spread widely. Although the motive is still being probed, initial findings point to a possible link with his political statements and social media activity.
