A 59-year-old woman in Dahisar East filed a police complaint alleging she was swindled out of Rs 1.2 lakh by a man posing as a CBI officer. According to reports, the impostor called her claiming her son had been arrested in connection with a serious crime involving his friends.

The caller, pretending to be from the CBI’s Bandra office, coerced her into believing that unless she paid up, the news would be leaked to the media.

To convince her, the fraudster played what appeared to be a deepfake audio clip of her son crying. Believing the ruse, the woman transferred Rs 1.2 lakh in multiple transactions to accounts provided by the scammer. The demands for money persisted, prompting her to contact her son, who confirmed he was safe at his office and not in custody.

Realizing she had been deceived, the woman reported the incident to Dahisar police, who registered a case of cheating against an unidentified individual on July 4. The investigation is ongoing to apprehend the culprit behind this elaborate scam.
