Indian-American businessman Sant Singh Chatwal expressed his confidence that US-India relations will stay strong, regardless of who wins the 2024 presidential election. He noted, “Trump had very good relations with Modi ji. But don’t underestimate Kamala Harris. I strongly feel that she is looking forward to her visit to India… both will have a very strong relationship with India.” Chatwal believes that, with the US viewing India as a key ally in the Indo-Pacific region, recent cooperation will only grow stronger.
According to Chatwal, many voters are leaning toward Kamala Harris, mainly due to concerns about Trump’s inconsistency. He stated, “I think the mood of the voters is going more for Kamala Harris because Trump has been very unstable.” For example, Chatwal noted that Trump’s conflicting statements on his communication with Russian President Putin have raised doubts among voters. Additionally, Trump’s remarks about Puerto Ricans may affect his support from this voter base.
Furthermore, Chatwal emphasized that key states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and North Carolina are critical in this election. He observed that many women support Harris, especially because of issues like abortion rights, which has made the race very close. “Kamala Harris has a very good chance,” he said confidently.
Chatwal highlighted that voter turnout this year is notably high. Moreover, he described this election as the most expensive he has seen in his 45 years of following US elections. “A lot of people are coming to vote. That’s the most important thing here. And also, must say, this election I have seen the costliest election,” he said. He added that while Kamala Harris’s campaign has outspent Trump’s, the outcome will largely depend on turnout, particularly among women voters, which could tip the scales.
Addressing recent attacks on Hindu temples in Canada by Khalistani supporters, Chatwal urged Canada to work with India to resolve this issue. He stated, “I strongly feel this has gone too much out of the way… It’s against the Khalistanis, it’s all nonsense.” Chatwal advised Canada to cooperate closely with Prime Minister Modi on this matter, stressing that the situation has reached extreme levels and has resulted in negative publicity.
