Veteran actress Hema Malini is known for popular 1970-80s films like Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, and Dream Girl.
For those unaware, in an interview with fashion designer-politician Shaina NC, the actress has revealed that she entered politics on the insistence of late actor Vinod Khanna. She said, “One day Vinod called to say, ‘I am fighting elections from Gurdaspur, I want you to campaign for me. I refused outright…but he insisted.” Further, Hema added, “She decided to join politics because it gave her a good platform to serve the people.
The ‘Sholay’ star also revealed that she never aimed to join politics. Her mother was very impressed with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. She said, “You must do it. So I took the plunge into a field I had no idea about. It’s important to learn about things you don’t know anything about.”
The actress-politician also served as the brand ambassador of Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad. In the same interview, she shared, “Mathura is very popular around the world, especially with Lord Krishna devotees. An initiative has been taken to promote the Braj culture, art, music, dance, and plays.” Hema continued that a lot of options for the entertainment of the tourists are being developed so that they not only visit the temples in Mathura but also learn about the reasons behind the city’s popularity.
