Ira Singhal is an IAS officer who suffers from scoliosis, a spine-related disorder that disrupts arm movement. But this did not stop her from pursuing her dream and sitting for the civil service exam. And also topping it at age 30 in 2014. Ira appeared on “We Women Want” this week and opened up about how she paved her path to success in conversation with Priya Sahgal, Senior Executive Editor of NewsX.
UNFORMIDABLE SPIRIT
On the show, Ira spoke about her never-say-die spirit that spurred her on and the support she got from her parents, especially her father. “I was never treated as a special child or one who is physically handicapped, and so I should be treated with kid gloves. That helped me feel like I could achieve anything,” she expressed, and indeed, that is what she has done. She is now the brand ambassador of many departments, including the ministry of social justice and empowerment.
FACING CHALLENGES
Ira also talked about how she dealt with bullying, both online and offline. In fact, when asked if her physical disabilities ever bothered her, she retorted that she doesn’t need to be tall to achieve anything that she hasn’t yet. It is this kind of spirit that we promote on the show, which is fast becoming a support group on all women related issues, as we celebrate the winners but also reach out to those in need and help find solutions.
