Two momo shop owners in Jabalpur have been arrested for violating food hygiene standards after a viral video exposed unsanitary practices at their food stall. Rajkumar and Sachin Goswami were taken into custody following complaints from locals near the Bargi police station.

Disturbing Footage Shows Unsanitary Dough-Kneading

A viral video circulating on social media platforms shows a young man standing barefoot inside a large vessel filled with flour, intended for making momo. The footage captures the man using his feet to knead the dough, occasionally flipping it with his hands before resuming the process. The video, shared widely on the X platform, shocked viewers with its blatant disregard for hygiene. The caption on the video read: “A video of making momos by kneading flour with feet surfaced today in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The police have arrested momos shop owners Rajkumar Goswami and Sachin Goswami.”

Community Outrage and Legal Action

The incident prompted immediate backlash from Jabalpur residents, who lodged formal complaints condemning the unhygienic practices. The local police quickly responded, arresting the two men and filing legal charges under multiple sections of the law. According to the Free Press Journal, the case is now under investigation.

Online Reactions Demand Strict Action

The video sparked widespread outrage on social media, with netizens demanding stricter food safety enforcement. One user commented, “The strictest action should be taken. Where do such shameless people come from?” Another wrote, “This is very wrong; action must be taken against them.”

Some users highlighted concerns about the general state of street food hygiene, with one individual noting, “This is the story of every momo seller; the story of non-veg momos is even dirtier.” Another user attempted to justify the practice, explaining, “The dough for momos and golgappas cannot be kneaded by hand, either by machine or by foot. Very few people have machines.”

Broader Concerns About Street Food Safety

This incident has reignited concerns over the declining quality of street food in India. The viral video has shed light on unsanitary practices that pose significant risks to public health. This is not an isolated case; in a similar incident last August, a video surfaced showing workers preparing soya chaap in unsanitary conditions. Factory workers were filmed handling chaap batter with their bare hands, and some were seen standing inside tubs filled with soybean pulp, raising alarms about food safety standards.

Call for Stricter Hygiene Regulations

As the video continues to circulate online, there are growing calls for the government to enforce stricter hygiene regulations in street food preparation. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining food safety to protect public health and prevent such harmful practices from occurring in the future.
