A shocking case of extortion unfolded in Mumbai’s Powai area, where a man impersonating a police cop attempted to extort Rs 50,000 from a woman over her use of an e-cigarette (vape). The woman, who was being taken to the police station in an auto-rickshaw, acted swiftly and smartly by recording the entire encounter on her phone, forcing the imposter to flee the scene.
The incident took place on MIDC Road, where the woman was carrying an e-cigarette when the man, dressed in plain clothes, claimed to be a police officer and detained her. He threatened to take her to the Powai police station unless she paid Rs 50,000. Suspicious of his behavior, the woman started filming the interaction while inside the auto-rickshaw. In the video, she can be heard stating, “You cannot take me anywhere without a female police officer present.” Upon realizing that he had been caught on camera, the man quickly exited the auto and ran away.
