Russian airports in Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Izhevsk, and Perm briefly stopped flights on Sunday morning to “ensure the security of civilian aviation,” according to the aviation watchdog, Rosaviatsia. The agency was not specific regarding the reasons behind the temporary closure, but in the past suspensions, which have been noted to be triggered by fears that Ukraine may unleash drones on them.
Restrictions were removed by 11:00 a.m. (0800 GMT), and the normal functioning of flight operations was restored. The cities mentioned are on the eastern side of Moscow.
In December, Kazan’s airport also cancelled flights due to a Ukrainian drone attack on a residential complex and other locations; however, there were no reports of injury in the event.
