There has been a fresh round of attacks between Russia and Ukraine that have cost at least three lives, officials said on Saturday. Ukraine saw several overnight strikes, including one in which a civilian was killed in Dnipro, while Russia reported two deaths after a Ukrainian drone strike in the Rostov region.
In Dnipro, Mayor Borys Filatov verified that one individual died when a high-rise residential building was targeted.
“I know that there are not enough shelters, but I must tell you: during shelling, it is absolutely inadvisable to remain on the top floors, particularly when there is a lower-floor parking lot,” Filatov counseled on Telegram.
In neighboring Russia, meanwhile, Rostov’s acting governor Yuri Sliusar stated that a drone attack ignited a car on fire, resulting in deaths. “Unfortunately, two died,” he posted on Telegram.
Several Ukrainian Cities Attacked
Several Ukrainian cities, such as Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia, were targeted by Russian forces at night. In Kharkiv, Mayor Igor Terekhov labeled the attack as long and strong.
“The enemy used several types of weapons at once: guided bombs, ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones,” Terekhov explained.
Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov said there were multiple fires caused by Russian drone attacks, including damage to a residential high-rise and a farm warehouse.
Zelensky Urges Peace Negotiations During Standoff
President Volodymyr Zelensky has again called for a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and suggested that the negotiations be conducted within the month. The Kremlin is in doubt about any near-term talks.
Ukraine has charged Moscow with sending its junior officials to negotiations, which leaves little room for serious progress. Russia, however, maintains that Kyiv needs to commit to relinquishing four territories Moscow said it annexed, a demand that Ukraine has categorically refused.
With the diplomatic stalemate persisting, Ukraine has been looking to its Western allies for more military support to offset the persistent Russian attacks.
