Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma individually came to the Bombay High Court on Thursday for the hearing of their divorce. Even though the appearance of the couple in court got a lot of media coverage, it was the fashion sense of Chahal that was under discussion on the internet.

Dhanashree appeared at the hearing wearing a basic white t-shirt and blue jeans, whereas Chahal arrived dressed in a black t-shirt emblazoned with the caption “Be your own sugar daddy.” It was wondered by users on social media if his t-shirt slogan was an innocent insult of Dhanashree, particularly after the alimony award by court order.

According to the directive of the family court, Chahal must pay Rs. 4.75 crore to Dhanashree in the divorce settlement. But sources report that he has paid Rs. 2.37 crore till now.

Social Media Reacts to Chahal’s T-Shirt

Chahal’s t-shirt soon went viral among netizens, who filled social media with comments. One user posted, “Nice t-shirt,” with laughing emojis. Another posted, “T-shirt jaan kar pehni heii (The t-shirt was worn intentionally).” Someone else said, “Bhai khel gaya Tshirt pehen k (well played brother).

Earlier, there were reports of widespread rumors that Dhanashree had asked for Rs. 60 crore as alimony. Legal documents obtained by Bar and Bench, however, made it clear that Chahal had settled for Rs. 4.75 crore.

The Bombay High Court has earlier dropped the compulsory six-month waiting period under the Hindu Marriage Act, enabling the couple to complete their divorce without further delay. But the court considered non-payment of the outstanding settlement amount as default, which weighed in its ruling.

Divorce Decree Officially Granted

Chahal and Dhanashree, who were wedded in 2020, had been residing separately for close to a year. After the hearing on Thursday, Chahal’s counsel, Nitin Kumar Gupta, attested that their divorce was legally granted.

“The court has issued the decree of divorce. The court has admitted the mutual petition of the two parties. The parties are not husband and wife anymore,” declared Gupta.
