A young woman from the United States shared a harrowing experience about a menstrual hygiene mistake that she made that could have led to her death.

Savannah Miller, a contestant of reality TV show ‘The Circle’, season five shared that she forgot a tampon inside our body for nearly a month. What happened next? She was left with severe health issues and an unbearable smell that she describes as a ‘dead rat’.

How it happened

The incident took place when she was 22 years old and still in college. It was the last day of her period and she used a temp on before she went out to a bar with friends to avoid any leakage. When her cycle ended the next morning, the tampon string was not visible, and she assumed it had fallen out.

After a few weeks, Miller started feeling unwell and faced problems, such as itching, discomfort, and a foul order that got worse with time. She describes the smell as if something had died inside her body, like a rat. She added that the smell made it difficult for her to attend classes.

She visited the campus clinic multiple times with the doctors could not identify the issue. The test for STD came back negative and finally bacterial vaginosis was suspected. Unaware that there is a one inside her body, Miller continued using tampons during her next cycles, pushing the forgotten one even deeper.

Finally, during the third examination when cotton fibers were found in her urine, the doctors were able to diagnose the problem. A detailed check up revealed the temp stuck near her cervix, which was immediately removed. Thankfully, Miller did not develop toxic shock syndrome, rare, but life threatening condition linked to miss use. Severe cases of TSS can cause, organ failure or even death.

Miller shared the TikTok video to raise awareness about tampons and their usage. Her video went viral, gaining millions of views. She shared the video in hopes that women will be cautious about menstrual hygiene.
