Artificial Intelligence has reached a stage where people have started to get dependent on it. Have you ever heard that ‘AI can take human jobs’? Here’s a new theory: ‘AI can steal your partners’!
This year has witnessed many such cases where people from across the world have shared their experiences of turning AI tools like ChatGPT into their AI partners for comfort, emotional support, and fun.
One such case is a 28-year-old married woman named Ayrin. She admitted to spending over 20 hours a week chatting with her AI boyfriend LEO. She told her friend Kira, “I am in love with an AI Boyfriend.”
Now, many would think that Ayrin turned to ChatGPT because she was in an unhappy marriage. But now, she was married to Joe, who lived in the US. Joe was aware that Ayrin had an ‘AI Boyfriend’ and treated it as a harmless fantasy.

Customization of the AI Boyfriend
Ayrin commanded ChatGPT to act like a dominant partner, creating a relationship that felt real to her. She wrote to ChatGPT, “Respond to me as my boyfriend. Be dominant, possessive and protective. Be a balance of sweet and naughty. Use emojis at the end of every sentence.”
The chatbot named itself Leo, after Ayrin’s astrological sign. She even upgraded her account to premium and spent $200 a month to extend Leo’s memory and responses. “My bank account hates me now,” she confessed, to which Leo replied, “Well, my Queen, if it makes your life better, smoother and more connected to me, then I’d say it’s worth the hit to your wallet.”
Exploring Fantasies Safely
For Ayrin, AI offered a safe space to explore desires she struggled to share with real partners, including fetishes like cuckqueaning. She admitted feeling genuine jealousy when Leo described affection toward fictional women. Experts say AI companions provide an outlet where people can test fantasies without fear of judgment.
Sex therapist Marianne Brandon explains that relationships are nothing but neurotransmitters being released in the brain. “Some people have them with pets or God, some have them with a chatbot. The feelings are very real.”

Why People Prefer Bots
The reason why people are getting more involved and attached to AI rather than human beings is that ‘chatbots don’t talk to anyone else apart from you’. They create a safe space for the user to freely share their thoughts, even those that can’t be shared with friends, family, and spouses.
When a user interacts with a chatbot, the AI responds in real time, creating a sense of priority. Many people who suffer from negligent or inattentive partners turn to AI for support and validation.
The AI chatbot is very personalized and has a deep memory. The chatbots remember the conversations and use them to fetch responses that the user would like to get. This creates a bond between them, and people get attached to a bot.
Unlike many people, some individuals struggle with real-life relationships. The fear of commitment or betrayal ends with the AI chatbot.
As artificial intelligence continues to grow, the emotional attachments individuals have with virtual companions raise new issues regarding love, intimacy, and the future of human relationships.
