Swiggy Shares Virat Kohli’s Post on International Burger Day; Reveals Other Interesting Facts About Burgers in India

Swiggy recently disclosed the latest burger ordering trends observed over the past year in India to celebrate International Burger Day (May 28). According to a report by the Economic Times, the food delivery platform saw a significant surge in burger orders, with nearly 40 million burgers ordered in the last year alone.

The company also highlighted that last year, a customer from Chandigarh made a remarkable order of 1146 burgers on Swiggy. This translates to an average of about three burgers every single day for the customer.

In addition to sharing the ‘burger numbers,’ Swiggy reposted a throwback photo from Virat Kohli’s childhood on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), depicting the young cricketer relishing a burger.

The image captures a young Kohli enjoying a burger, with a plate full of burgers placed before him. In the post, Kohli wrote: “Throwback to a time when I would eat everything. No wonder I turned into a chubby boy. Feasting on burgers in this.”

“Sometimes you eat one good burger and think about it for the rest of your life. Happy burger day,” the company wrote while reposting the photo on X that Kohli originally posted eight years ago.

Which cities ordered the most burgers in 2023

According to Swiggy data, Bengaluru emerged as the Burger Capital of India with the city ordering over six million burgers. Mumbai secured the second position with five million orders, while Delhi took the third spot with over 3.2 million orders in this burger consumption trend.

The company highlighted that for Indians, dinner seemed to be the most popular time for enjoying burgers. With over 19.5 million orders, most Indians preferred delivery during late-night hours.

Lunchtime secured the second place with 9.6 million orders, while snack time (evening) witnessed more than 7.4 million orders. This indicates that burgers are a favourite choice for Swiggy users throughout the day.

The most popular burgers in India

The ‘crispy veg burger’, ‘McAloo tikki burger’, ‘McVeggie burger’, ‘crispy chicken burger’, and ‘chicken zinger burger’ were the most ordered burgers on Swiggy last year. Fries and Coke emerged as the top choices to accompany burgers for Indians, while cheese slice and cheese dip were the most popular toppings.

Some customers displayed creativity in their burger choices by ordering unique flavors. Burgers that gained popularity included the detoxifying ‘signature quinoa burger’, ‘beetroot falafel burger’, ‘kurkure chaap burger’, and ‘rajma mexicana burger’.
