Ex-Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni has returned to Kinnar Akhada as Mahamandaleshwar after she had quit earlier. In a video message released on Friday, she had confirmed her reappointment, saying that her resignation was turned down by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi. She said that her first resignation was done out of emotion but later decided to serve Sanatan Dharma at the behest of her guru.
“Two days back, certain people falsely accused my guru, Dr. Acharya Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi. I resigned out of emotion at that time. But my guru did not approve of my resignation. The gifts I offered at the time of becoming a Mahamandaleshwar, such as the royal umbrella, staff, and other sacred gifts, will continue to be devoted to the Akhada. I thank my guru for reverting me back. From now on, I dedicate my life to Kinnar Akhada and Sanatan Dharma,” Mamta said in the video.
On February 10, Mamta Kulkarni had quit as Mahamandaleshwar, citing the backlash over her appointment and the spiritual path she took up after quitting Bollywood. She also reacted to claims of paying for the job, denying them and revealing that she had been asked for money but turned it down.
Mamta, 52, was officially appointed as Mahamandaleshwar on January 24. Ajay Das, however, subsequently stated that “Laxmi Narayan Tripathi is being removed from the position of Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara. She has violated the principles of Sanatan Dharma and national interest by appointing Mamta Kulkarni, who has been booked in a case of sedition, as a Mahamandaleshwar without following the traditions of the Akhara.”
