A Dubai-based travel vlogger and radio presenter, Parikshit Balochi, has gone viral after posting a humorous yet frustrating rant about how expensive India feels today. Despite earning in Dhirams, he admitted that vising is home country no longer gives him the ‘rich’ feeling it once did.
‘I Wasn’t Supposes to Feel Gareeb‘
The video which was shared on Instagram quickly went viral. It garnered 5 lakh views. Balochi wittingly remarked that he was not supposed to feel poor in India considering that he is an NRI. He further shared that he had a cup of tea for Rs. 1000 at his hotel in Mumbai.
He also recalled that Rs.1000 were used to make stock market investments at the time he left India, making viewers amused.

For years, the NRIs enjoyed visiting India because their foreign earnings stretched much further against the rupee, making food, shopping, and travel feel affordable. But Balochi said that advantage has now disappeared.
The vlogger humorously said that he wanted to visit India and spend as much as he like without feeling cheap or poor. He quoted, “Doston, we had a deal. The deal was I come to India, everything feels cheap. Main paisa udaaun because main dirhams aur dollars mein kama raha hun (I spend lavishly because I earn in dirhams and dollars),” he explained.
He added with disbelief, “Dirhams ko rupees mein convert karke kaise shock lag sakta hai yar? It was supposed to be the other way around.” He added, “Yahan pe logon se puch raha hun, kitna paisa hai bhai tumhare paas (I’m asking people here how much money they have).”
Currently a UAE Dhiram equals Rs. 23.83.

NRIs Agree With Him
His rant struck a chord with many NRIs who filled the comment section with heir own experiences.
One wrote, “Finally someone said it. Prices are skyrocketing in India, that too with dropping quality.” Another commented, “I feel this every time I visit India. Sure, I earn in dollars and can afford it, but what amazes me is how locals manage without dollar salaries.”
The viral video has sparked a wider conversation about India’s rising cost of living, showing how it affects both locals and NRIs.
