At a time when even the most modest hotel rooms can break a traveler’s budget, one place in Pakistan is proving that extremely affordable still exists, but it does have cons. 

A Pakistan hotel charges 20 rupees for a night

Forget hostels or capsule pods a stay here costs less than a cup of roadside chai. A video of what is being called the world’s cheapest hotel has gone viral, showing travelers can still find warmth, hospitality, and a bed for just 20 rupees a night. 

Location of the Hotel

A hotel in Pakistan’s Peshawar city is taking the internet by storm after a travel vlogger revealed a night’s stay costs just 70 Pakistani rupees roughly Rs 20 in Indian currency or 25 US cents.

British travel vlogger David Simpson, popularly known as The Travel Fugitive online, recently shared a video regarding his stay there. The man described the experience as “unreal.”

He said, “I have stayed in five-star hotels, but the warmth I felt here is unmatched.” His post has since gone viral across social media platforms, drawing millions of views and sparking curiosity about the humble yet heartwarming place.

Named after the historic inns that once housed traders travelling along the Silk Route, it is called Caravanserai and is located in Peshawar’s old quarters.

But this one comes with a twist there are no rooms, no air-conditioning, and no frills. Instead, guests sleep on cots traditional woven beds laid out on the building’s rooftop under an open sky.

What’s Special in a 70-Rupee Pakistani Hotel?

Each bed in the dormitory costs just 70 Pakistani rupees for the night. The setting has clean sheets, a fan, a shared bathroom, and free tea.

No frills, but connection. Every customer who arrives at this hotel is greeted personally by its owner, who often narrates stories about a history here that goes back centuries.

As the video went viral, no one seemed to stop talking about it. Some admired the simplicity, and others were shocked to see it so cheap: “You can’t even buy street chai for 20 this is incredible!” “This place has more heart than most five-star hotels.” 

Others made light of the open-air facility, saying, “Perfect till mosquitoes join the party.” Others praised the hospitality, calling it “a reminder that kindness matters more than luxury.”

Despite mixed reactions, one thing’s clear: this tiny rooftop hotel in Pakistan has won the world’s attention.
