Two weeks back, the British royal family joined the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, presided over by King Charles and Queen Camilla. They were greeted with the familiar Bollywood hit Dhoom Machale, performed by the Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band, a Hindu Scottish pipe band. The surreal cross-cultural moment of the choice of music left many desi viewers gobsmacked.
At first, the moment had gone unnoticed, but the band has just posted a video of the performance on Instagram, and it has gone viral. It was questioned on social media if it was true, but the BBC’s broadcast of the ceremony confirmed that Dhoom Machale had indeed played as King Charles and Camilla were welcomed in.

The internet responded with amusement and incredulity, comparing it to Dhoom 2, in which Hrithik Roshan’s character steals a cash heist while impersonating Queen Elizabeth. “That is obviously Hrithik Roshan in disguise as Camilla,” one Instagram user joked, another posting, “I think Dhoom 4 movie promotion took place there.
Others used the moment to make jokes about the Kohinoor diamond. “Relax boys, it’s Hrithik gone to take the Kohinoor back,” one of them posted. Another post said, “The band master cooked that day.”
