A German vlogger, Alex Welder, has taken social media by storm after praising India’s metro system. He expressed his surprise at the efficiency, cleanliness, and modern infrastructure of metro networks in cities like Delhi and Agra, even stating that they surpassed some transit routes in Western Europe.
Welder, who has over 70,000 followers on Instagram, shared a video highlighting his positive experience. He admitted that before visiting India, he believed the public transport system consisted mostly of old buses and noisy tuk-tuks.
“Before coming to India, the stereotypes about public transport in the country were demolished or old buses and trains and noisy tuk-tuks and rickshaws,” he captioned his post.
He further acknowledged that Delhi’s metro system includes features comparable to those found in South Korea, Japan, and China. “Delhi even has platform screen doors on some of its lines, plugs to charge your phone, and designated seats for women and the elderly. These are all things I’ve seen in South Korea, Japan, and China but honestly did not expect to find in India,” he noted.

During his stay in South Delhi, Welder found metro rides comfortable as long as he avoided rush hours and tourist-heavy areas. He also noted that foreign travelers and content creators rarely showcase this side of India’s development.
Social Media Reacts
Welder’s video quickly went viral, amassing over 3.8 million views and sparking thousands of reactions. Many users pointed out that the West often holds outdated perceptions of India’s progress.
“When you travel you realize the western propaganda about many things,” one user commented. Another user praised the Delhi Metro, saying, “No drug addicts, no drunken people, nobody pissing or puking, no rats, clean, a little crowded, best connectivity! Better than any other subway system.”
A third user compared it to London’s transit, stating, “Delhi metro is sooo much better than London tube.”
Welder’s post has fueled discussions on India’s advancements in urban infrastructure and public transport, challenging global stereotypes and encouraging more travelers to experience the country’s modern transit systems firsthand.
