A shameful act of an elderly man urinating near an airplane on the runway at Bihar’s Darbhanga Airport has gone viral. The alarming incident took place when a man in a traditional white kurta-pajama outfit was seen hunched very close to an airplane on an operational runway.

The incident was filmed by the pilot from the flight deck, with the person standing in a grassy spot mere meters from the aircraft. The fact that the person was standing in the grassy spot near the airstrip implies a violation of several layers of security procedures at the airport. Areas like these are usually off-limits and under surveillance to ward off unwanted visitors due to the sensitivity of airfield operations.
Airport officials have several layers of security, from perimeter fencing to surveillance equipment and security patrols, to keep such unauthorized entry off the runway. The incident might trigger a recheck of these security arrangements at Darbhanga airport. Nevertheless, the 9-second clip has been watched over 285,000 times, with social media users reacting in equal parts laughter and concern.

Shameful Act: Mera Desh Badal Raha Hai Comment
In the background, other passengers are queuing to board the plane while the voice, which is thought to be the pilot, laughs. Another stated, “Mera desh badal raha hai aage badh raha hai?????” Biharis never fail to surprise us.” Some proceeded to educate the man and the pilot. A user added, “Airport terminals have enough toilets, but still these idiots would do it in the open.”
Disgusting civic sense some Indians have; they will never learn. “Pilots making jokes about old men. Old men have difficulty controlling the bladder. “Shameful,” posted another. The closeness of the person to active aircraft operations created a risky environment that could affect flight safety. Aircraft operations need unimpeded and open runway spaces for safe landing and taking off. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is yet to issue a formal reaction to the incident. It remains unknown if the man was a passenger or an employee, or from which airline’s cockpit the video was recorded.
