The price of domestic flights in India has increased significantly, making it more expensive to travel within the nation compared to international locations. A stand-up comic recently pointed this out when he discovered a flight from Delhi to Dubai that was cheaper than a domestic flight from Delhi to Jaisalmer.
Ankit Grover, a comedian residing in London, disclosed that the fare for the Delhi-Jaisalmer flight was Rs 31,000 per person, while the flight to Dubai only cost him ₹30,000. He had originally intended to arrange a trip to Jaisalmer to celebrate his parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, but upon noticing the price spike, he chose a less expensive international destination instead.
Grover recounted this incident in an Instagram comment, which has since gained widespread attention on X (previously known as Twitter). Although he did not share specifics about the dates, his post stated: “For my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary, I was booking tickets to Jaisalmer. Delhi to Jaisalmer flight was 15K pp and when I was about to book after a gap of 3-4 days, it shot to 31K pp. I ended up booking Dubai for 30K pp. ” He also remarked, “Who is at loss? Mera Bharat Mahan. ”

The post elicited various responses online, with numerous users expressing astonishment and condemning the escalating prices of domestic flights. One commenter stated, “Yes of course mera Bharat Mahan, there are no regulations on fare charges. The government must intervene in this otherwise local tourism will get hampered. ” Another noted, “Ankit Groverni is at loss, Govt has Nothing to lose. ”
A third user commented, “People are exploring the foreign trip because of the same price range. Checkout Goa state in New Year, people prefer to go to Vietnam or Thailand rather than Goa in the same price range. This needs some serious thinking among authorities. “
