Chhath Puja is a function to pray for the Sun god; the rite involves prolonged abstention from water with offerings to Usha and Pratyusha that signify the lighting of both sun’s ascending and sun’s setting and standing in water. Chhath Puja typically starts from the sixth day of Kartik month, although it may occur during late October to early November months. There are some, who keep the festival on the second half of March, when the month Chaitra occurs, so it’s known as Chaiti Chhath.
