Pop star Katy Perry is gearing up for her space trip aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft with an all-female crew, a 15-year-old dream. She called her fellow pioneering crew members “astronaut girlfriends” and posted an update about the historic mission.
The all-woman crew, the ‘Taking Up Space’ team, will embark on April 14, 2025, aboard Blue Origin’s NS-31, the 11th crewed suborbital mission of the company. The launch will be at 7 a.m. CT (1:30 p.m. GMT/7 p.m. IST) from Blue Origin’s private space facility in West Texas.

Katy Perry posted a video on Instagram in which she was wearing a blue spacesuit with her name “K Perry” printed on it. She announced her call sign for the mission as ‘Feather-2’, along with a peek at the capsule. She also sang “here are the new shepherd” to express her enthusiasm and love for singing.
“I think I’m gonna sing, I’m gonna sing in a little bit, I got to sing in space,” Perry indicated, suggesting the first-ever live performance in suborbital space.
During her capsule tour, Perry indicated the seat she’d be taking, which is seat number two, and stated that she and her crew had exercised for the last four days to prepare for the flight.
In her video post, Perry posted, “I’ve been dreaming about traveling to space for 15 years and tomorrow that dream becomes a reality.” She added, “The Taking Up Space Crew is launching tomorrow morning at 7am CT, and I am SO humbled to be joining 5 other amazing and inspiring women as we become the first ever all female flight space crew!”

Perry will be joined by some prominent figures, including journalist Gayle King, civil rights leader Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez.
Looking back on the mission, Perry stated, “I do believe this. I’m not going to say I can’t believe I’m here. I do believe this because I think that believing your dreams and saying that is actually how you make your dreams come true,” demonstrating her excitement about this historic moment.
