India marked Vijay Diwas on Tuesday with a sea of tributes pouring in from President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, paying homage to the heroes of the 1971 war. This historic victory did not only ensure India‘s military victory over Pakistan but also birthed Bangladesh as an independent nation.
President Droupadi Murmu thanked the soldiers on X (formerly Twitter) who showed extra ordinary bravery during the war. She wrote,
“On Vijay Diwas, I pay homage to our valiant soldiers who displayed indomitable courage during the 1971 war, securing victory for India. A grateful nation remembers the ultimate sacrifice of our bravehearts whose stories inspire every Indian and shall remain a source of national pride.”

Her message was a reminder to the nation about the legacy of the soldiers and how they were crucial in the making of Indian history.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the soldiers, who were a symbol of unmatched bravery and commitment to the war of 1971. He said:
“Today, on Vijay Diwas, we pay homage to the valour and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve safeguarded our nation and brought glory to us. This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and their unshakable spirit. Their sacrifices will forever inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in our nation’s history.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also was among the nation remembering martyrs while praising their courageous and patriot hearts. He said:
“Today on the special Vijay Diwas day, the country is paying homage to the valor and sacrifices made by the Indian Armed forces. Due to their exemplary courage and patriotism, India remained a secure country. Our country would never forget their sacrifices or services.
Vijay Diwas is the remembrance of a decisive victory won by the Indian army over the Pak forces in 1971, winning Bangladesh liberation war. India‘s military strength and their strategic acumen were on full display: direct intervention, Mukti Bahini training, and history’s largest surrender of around 90,000 soldiers from the enemy’s rank.
This day remains a significant chapter in India’s history, celebrating the resilience, valour, and sacrifice of the armed forces, whose contributions continue to inspire generations.
