A massive cloudburst triggered flash floods in Dharali villages of Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi. Many houses have been swept away and more than 50 people are reported missing. The cloudburst took place in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river, causing dreadful floods.

A local news agency informed PTI that 20-25 hotels and homestays might have washed away with the floods.

He expressed on social media platform X, “The news of heavy damage caused by a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region is extremely sad and distressing. SDRF, NDRF, district administration, and other related teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing. In this regard, I am in constant contact with senior officials, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”

    Indian Army Deploys 150 Personnel Within Minutes of Landslide Near Dharali, Launches Rescue Ops

    Brigadier Mandeep Dhillon, Brigade Commander, stated that the landslide took place around 1:45 PM near Dharali village, approximately 4 km from the Indian Army camp at Harshil. Within ten minutes, the Army had deployed 150 personnel to the site, equipped with specialised medical and rescue gear, including doctors, who are actively involved in the ongoing rescue efforts.

    District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed that a cloudburst in Uttarkashi triggered a massive rush of water, impacting an area with several restaurants and hotels. “A large volume of water came down suddenly. Army teams have been dispatched to the affected site. I’ve received reports that four people have lost their lives. We are now heading to the location,” he stated.
