In a case from Uttar Pradesh, police rescued a man who had allegedly been held hostage for a ransom of Rs 3 lakh by a woman he met on a “blind date.” The woman, along with two other suspects, was arrested in Jhansi, according to officials.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Lallu Chaubey from Lalitpur, received a call on November 8 from unknown individuals who then detained him, demanding a ransom of Rs 3 lakh. Lalitpur SP Mohammad Mushtaq reported that Rs 1 lakh had already been paid.
On November 9, authorities conducted a raid, successfully rescuing Chaubey and apprehending three individuals: Akhilesh Ahirwar (30), Satish Singh Bundela (27), and Kiran (35).
Police outlined the gang’s strategy, stating that they lured victims using multiple women associates. The method involved having a woman call a man, arranging a meeting in Jhansi, and then taking him hostage.
SP Mushtaq noted that the accused are being prosecuted under the Gangster Act, with further investigation underway to locate other members. The operation began after Chaubey’s son filed a report upon receiving a ransom call. Police dispatched multiple teams, one of which included an officer posing as Chaubey’s son to deliver the ransom, ultimately leading them to Chaubey’s location.
