The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has uncovered an unregistered news portal accused of spreading fake news. The portal, operating under the name “Daily News & Analysis” with a logo featuring the Pakistan flag, has been implicated in the dissemination of misinformation.
Responding promptly, authorities arrested two individuals, Zahoor Ahmad Khan and Abdul Rouf Peer, both hailing from Kupwara, for their alleged involvement in managing the site. The arrests were carried out on charges of disseminating rumours that had the potential to disturb peace and tranquillity in the region.Authorities confirmed the confiscation of numerous digital devices from the detained individuals, indicating an ongoing investigation into the scope of their activities and the consequences of the disseminated fake news. The efforts to clamp down on such sources are aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation and ensuring a secure environment in the region.
