The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that erupted outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas is identified as Matthew Livelsberger, 37, a Colorado Springs, Colorado resident. It was confirmed that the driver’s identity is confirmed after an FBI investigation at a few addresses attributed to him.
The explosion, which occurred on January 1, resulted in the driver’s death and injured at least seven bystanders, who sustained minor injuries. The incident is now being investigated as a potential act of terrorism. The vehicle was found to have been rented through the Turo app, which was also linked to the vehicle used in a deadly terrorist attack in New Orleans, carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
Hours before the explosion in Las Vegas, Jabbar drove a rental vehicle into crowds of New Year’s Eve revellers on Bourbon Street, killing at least 15 people and being shot by police in the process. The Las Vegas explosion is being closely examined today for any connection to the attack in New Orleans as well as around the world.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill has assured the public that nothing is being ruled out, and the authorities are working closely with Tesla. Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, has given extensive support through vehicle security data and video footage from Tesla’s charging stations. Authorities found fireworks-style mortars filled in the Cybertruck and are investigating if they were deliberately activated.
