In the wake of a fatal midair collision between a military helicopter and a passenger plane near Washington, DC, President Donald Trump confirmed Thursday that there were no survivors. The crash claimed the lives of all 64 people aboard the plane. The President, speaking to the nation from the White House, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it “a dark and excruciating night in our nation’s capital.”
We are all heartbroken, seeking answers, said Trump. Nothing will be overlooked in investigating this disaster under his administration, stated Trump. In fact, “the federal aviation agencies-the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the federal effort in working with US military safety officials to make a systematic and comprehensive investigation, including an update of information shortly,” said the president.
According to Trump, the events describing the crash showed that the military helicopter was on “an unbelievably bad trajectory” before striking the passenger plane. He said that the air traffic controllers hardly had a time to act because they noticed the danger, what he described is a “confluence of bad decisions” which caused the crash to occur.
On the safety policies during the Obama and Biden administrations, Trump also assailed them in his remarks saying that diversity-oriented directives compromised standards of safety. “I put safety first. Obama, Biden, and the Democrats put policy first,” he declared, as he referred to the directive on workforce diversity by the leadership when they were there. President further attacked his former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, pointing an accusing finger that he ruined the department in handling it properly as, in his words, “ran it right into the ground with his diversity.”
This tragedy, as he vowed to make sure will never happen in his administration again.
