Ex-US President Donald Trump seemed to forget the name of Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, during his remarks about her visit to Greenland. Instead of calling her by name, he called her “the wife of our first… of our great vice-president,” and continued, “I think she’s doing a… she’s a brilliant woman. She’s, er, a very nice woman and she loves the concept of Greenland.”
Trump said that Usha Vance and JD Vance had been “invited” to Greenland, which later denied. He reiterated that their trip was founded on “purely friendship,” adding, “People from Greenland are asking us to go. We have many, many requests from many, many people – some officials, too.

The trip is in the wake of Trump’s frequent claims that America should claim ownership of Greenland, a self-governing region of Denmark. The trip was, however, condemned by Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte B. Egede, who stated, “We are now at a level where it can in no way be characterised as a harmless visit from a politician’s wife. The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.
