The mother of OpenAI whistleblower Suchir Balaji has raised serious allegations regarding her son’s death, questioning the official suicide ruling by the San Francisco County Medical Examiner’s Office (OCME). She claims multiple CCTV cameras stopped working before his death and that autopsy findings fail to support the suicide conclusion.
Poornima Ramarao posted a CCTV still of Suchir Balaji having dinner at 7:30 PM on the evening he died. She put the picture up on X, writing that even after watching this footage, the OCME still determined his death was suicide and attributed it to him being depressed.
“Suchir’s photo on the evening of his death at 7:30 PM, having dinner. This is from CCTV recording,” she posted. “OCME viewed this video and still came to the conclusion he was depressed and made it a suicide.”
Toxicology Report Leaves New Questions
Ramarao also questioned the toxicology report, especially its results for gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a sedative that, when used in combination with alcohol, can lead to unconsciousness.
“Yet another cover-up by OCME: they told our lawyer that GHB is endogenous three days after death. But we discovered that the concentration of endogenous GHB is less than 5000 ng/L,” she claimed. “A sentence in the autopsy report says toxicology will only report GHB if over 50,000 ng/L. With alcohol, this mixture can cause loss of muscle control or unconsciousness.”
Allegations of a Planned Conspiracy
In a subsequent tweet, Ramarao alleged Suchir’s murder was preplanned. She said CCTV cameras in the garage where he kept his car, his apartment building, and a stopped elevator prior to his demise.
“One more suspicious observation—CCTV in Suchir‘s garage and his neighbors’ stopped functioning. One of the elevator CCTVs also stopped working,” she wrote. “This m*rder conspiracy was committed with long-range planning while keeping Suchir tracked.”
She also posted a message from X user Mia Stretch, who demanded that Balaji was not depressed.
“Suchir DID NOT take his own life! He was a fearless force, full of fierce determination, unshakeable joy, and blazing vigor, pouring every ounce of his radiant spirit into a relentless pursuit of justice,” the message stated.
Family Rejects Suicide Ruling, Continues Investigation
Ramarao has repeatedly rejected the OCME findings, pointing out several inconsistencies in the autopsy report. She promised to keep fighting for answers and the truth surrounding her son’s death.
“There are tons of inconsistencies in their decision. Underlying assumptions do not support the facts in the reports. We continue our investigation,” she stated.
The case continues to raise concerns as Balaji’s family and supporters demand further scrutiny into the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
