Wildfires swept through Los Angeles with fierce Santa Ana winds and unchecked flames that left many forced to evacuate. More than 100,000 people evacuated and 1,500 buildings destroyed, including homes in upscale neighborhoods such as Pacific Palisades and Malibu. Five fatalities have been confirmed.
Other celebrities include, among others Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore and Paris Hilton all lost their houses to the conflagration raging in Hollywood, California. This is a another fire which just broke out Hollywood Hills as huge flames threatened some famous landmarks within a Walk of Fame. Firefighting forces overwhelmed by sheer quantity, since departments from other states are rushed for containment.
The authorities are also facing the crisis of water scarcity, as several hydrants in areas such as Pacific Palisades have already run dry. President Biden signed a federal disaster declaration to aid in temporary housing and repairs. According to meteorologists, the rapid spread of the fires is due to climate change, since the region faces unprecedented dryness and strong winds, worsening the crisis.
