One November, outside of Erwin, a tractor-trailer carrying a milk tanker trailer ran into a concrete barrier on Interstate 26. The accident, which happened in the early morning, flipped the truck over, blocking two lanes of traffic. Fortunately, the driver of the truck escaped without injury, and no other vehicle was involved in the crash, according to the THP.
Truck accidents are a frequent occurrence in Tennessee. In February, a car-tanker collision took the lives of two people. A car turning left from the highway at the end of the afternoon collided with a fuel tanker. The driver of the tanker was too late to stop and hit the front passenger door of the car. The THP’s Critical Incident Response Team usually reconstructs the accident following such fatalities.
These incidents remind everyone of the ongoing challenges of large vehicle accidents on Tennessee’s roadways.
