David Humplett, a 25-year-old social media influencer, is making waves on the internet after a shocking incident in Florida. While enjoying a forest outing with friends and searching for snakes on Shired Island in Dixie County, Humplett was bitten by a diamondback rattlesnake. Instead of panicking, he took the opportunity to record himself, showing the snake’s bite and calmly declaring, “What a meme dude! Cool snake. Big diamondback. GG (good game).” His friends, however, were in shock as they realized the severity of the situation.
Although the bite was serious, Humplett surprisingly remained very calm. He was taken by helicopter to the Cross City fire station and then to UF Health Shands, where he received 88 antivenom injections. He was admitted to the ICU and stayed there for two weeks. As for his reaction after going through this, Humplett admitted the danger: “My reaction was just like dang it, this is really bad. I might lose my leg. It was pretty scary because my whole body went numb head to toe,” he told WCJB.com.
Video of the accident, which has been posted by user ‘CollinRugg’ on X (formerly Twitter), got 19 million views.
Social Media Reactions
Social media users flooded the comments with reactions, such as one who remarked, “It’ll be real funny till he finds out that rattlesnake anti-venom costs $120,000.” Another person commented on the snake’s massive size, saying, “That looks like it could be an 8′ to 10′ Diamondback.”
“It is the biggest Diamondback snake I’ve ever seen my whole life,” some viewers mentioned.
Some said that Humplett was the calmest fellow, and said, “I think his failure to panic was what saved him. Kept his heart rate down. Most folks freak out. That spreads it faster.” Yet another person believed, “I think his ability to remain in control and calm himself down much helped.”. If he panics like crazy his blood rushes, which in turn rushes the venom through him more quickly.
