Greenland Forms New Government As US Eyes Territory Ahead Of VP’s Visit

Greenland’s Democrats and three other parties have signed a coalition deal, mere hours before US Vice President JD Vance’s visit to the Arctic island, which has been of interest to President Donald Trump in the past for purchase.

The new administration will be headed by Jens-Frederik Nielsen, a pro-business Democrat leader, who called on political groups to set aside their differences and present a united front against Trump’s bid to annex the semi-autonomous Danish region.

After the March 11 general election, the Democrats considerably grew in power, doubling their seats in parliament to 10 and emerging as the majority party. The new coalition government, composed of parties from the entire political divide, now has a dominating majority with 23 out of the 31 parliamentary seats.

Interestingly, the Naleraq party, which doubled its members to eight and campaigns for independence from Denmark right away, has chosen to stay out of the coalition.
