Donald Trump Clarifies His 24-Hour Russia-Ukraine War End Promise was ‘A Bit Sarcastic’

Former President of the United States Donald Trump confessed that his repeated assurance to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours was ‘a little bit sarcastic’. Trump, in an interview with Full Measure, accepted that his campaign slogan was bold, but his actual desire was to resolve the conflict and he is confident that he could do it successfully.

Trump’s comment contradicted his earlier claims, such as a May 2023 CNN town hall where he testified, “They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done, I’ll have that done in 24 hours.”

He made the same claim during his September debate against then-Vice President Kamala Harris, stressing his capability to broker between Russia and Ukraine. “That is a war that’s dying to be settled. I will get it settled before I even become president. If I win, when I’m president-elect, and what I’ll do is I’ll speak to one, I’ll speak to the other. I’ll get them together,” Trump had announced.

As for the U.S.-initiated ceasefire that has been accepted by Ukraine, Trump admitted that there could be trouble with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible refusal. Trump was, however, optimistic about Putin’s ultimate concurrence, stating, “Bad news for this world because so many people are dying. But I think, I think he’s going to agree. I really do. I think I know him pretty well and I think he’s going to agree.”
