At least seven people have been killed in a disastrous medical jet crash in Philadelphia, with 19 others reported injured, officials said Saturday. The crash occurred on Friday when a Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, dived into a busy Philadelphia neighbourhood. The aftermath saw a massive explosion upon impact and scattering of wreckage over nearby homes and vehicles.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said one of the victims was a person in a car near the crash site. The plane was carrying four crew members, a young pediatric patient, and the child’s mother. The child, a girl, was flying back to Mexico, where her final destination was Tijuana. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum mourned the loss on social media.

The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation with assistance from the National Transportation Safety Board into what may have caused this crash. It is the second major air crash to befall the United States in one week. The country witnessed the worst air crash it has suffered since nearly 25 years back in the previous week when a Black Hawk helicopter clashed with a passenger jet, sending it crashing, killing everybody aboard.

They investigate incidents against both incidents to know what led to the crashes and avoid such tragedies in the future.
