Former U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to deliver his first public address since leaving office, focusing on Social Security reforms at a conference in Chicago. The event, hosted by the Advocates, Counselors and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD), will begin at 4:45 p.m. (3:15 a.m. IST) and marks Biden’s return to public political discourse.

We are so humbled President Biden is holding his first public event at ACRD’s sold-out conference,” ACRD Executive Director Rachel Buck stated. “As bipartisan legislators have long concluded, Americans who retire after contributing to Social Security their entire lives deserve the essential assistance and compassionate services they obtain.”. As such, we may be delighted the President will be joining us to address ways we can work together to ensure a secure and stable future for Social Security.”

White House Takes a Dig at Biden’s Timing

Prior to Biden’s speech, the White House mocked the former president for arriving late. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt jibed about the timing, stating, “I was shocked he is speaking at nighttime. I thought his bedtime was much earlier.”

She continued, “I understand that the topic of his speech is Social Security. Let me make it very clear ahead of former president Biden’s remarks. President Trump is absolutely certain about protecting Social Security benefits for law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens. He will always protect that program.”

Concerns Over Future of Social Security

Biden‘s address is at a time when public anxiety about the sustainability of Social Security under the Trump government is on the rise. There is fear among Americans following Elon Musk, who is now the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, labeling Social Security as a “ponzi scam.” Nevertheless, the government has reassured citizens that the program will not be dismantled.

Biden Seeks to Regain Political Salience

Although this is Biden’s first public speech since relinquishing the presidency, he has been reportedly meeting with Democratic Party leadership figures along with former First Lady Jill Biden over the past few months. Their activity points toward a tactical bid to remain politically viable as national discourse heats up.

Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries highlighted the need for Biden’s return to the limelight, saying, “This is an all hands on deck moment,” and placing the significance of Biden’s voice in the current national discourse.
