Two people were killed in a horrific single-car Tesla crash in a New York suburb on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred in Pelham Manor, near the Bronx, when the speeding electric vehicle crashed into a wall and caught fire around 9:15 a.m.

The Tesla was reported to have passed through an intersection on Shore Road before slamming into a barrier and bursting into flames. Despite the efforts of local firefighters who arrived at the scene, the victims—driver and passenger—were pronounced dead at the site after the fire was extinguished. It took emergency crews about 20 minutes to put out the flames, but they remained on the scene for hours to remove the bodies and clear debris, including scattered lithium-ion batteries.

At the time of reporting, the identities and ages of the victims had not been disclosed.

The fire chief, Michael Greco, noted that they knew the vehicle’s battery had been compromised due to the “popping” sounds heard during the blaze. The tragic crash occurred just weeks before Christmas, and local auto service owner Chris Ganpat expressed his sympathy, emphasizing how upsetting it was for the victims’ families during the holiday season.

Preliminary investigations suggest speed may have contributed to the crash, but the cause remains under investigation. This incident adds to the increasing number of fatal crashes involving Tesla vehicles, including a separate crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck that killed three students just days earlier.
