She also visited Tŷ Hafan’s hospice in Sully, Cardiff. This is her first event in Wales after she announced the diagnosis of her cancer. The princess spent precious time with children, their families, and staff. Initially, she laughed and played with children, but eventually, she, too, hand-painted along with them on the wall. One of the heartwarming moments when 9-year-old Lottie made Kate’s handprint was when Kate beamed as she let 4-year-old Maggie do the same.

An X user named ‘Rebecca English’ posted a video where Kate seemingly enjoys a good time with little children. The post reads: ‘Just one last word on the Princess’ engagements today, sources are keen to caution that her diary this week should not be seen as a  ‘template’ for the coming months.  As Catherine herself has said, like many cancer survivors her road to recovery remains long…’

Kate met with several children, including 3-year-old Dani-Rae, who was shaking maracas. She also met with the parents and carers, asking them about similar services in the community. Tŷ Hafan, which cares for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, has appointed Kate as its new patron, a role previously held by Princess Diana. This is part of a gradual return of her to public duties, but insiders said that she is still not fully at work.

Her appointment as Patron was welcomed with open arms by staff at Tŷ Hafan. The Chief Executive Irfon Rees thanked the Princess saying, “We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan. As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers, and everyone who generously supports us.”

Kate also made a donation of musical instruments to enhance therapy sessions at the hospice. She has kept a close relationship with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice (EACH) and is looking forward to establishing a similar relationship with Tŷ Hafan’s families.

Earlier, Kate had a poignant reunion with Holocaust survivors at a reception, where she shared emotional moments with Yvonne Bernstein and Stephen Frank, whom she had previously met in 2020. She greeted Yvonne with, “It’s so nice to see you,” and expressed concern about her health. Stephen, 89, thanked Kate for a Christmas card, and the two discussed his family. William and Kate shared that they wanted their children to learn about the Holocaust. William added, “George is getting to the age where he’s starting to understand things. So it’s getting interesting to talk to him about what happened.”
