The Udaipur police exposed a gang of 5 youths from three states. This gang used to offer boyfriends for girls and girlfriends for boys. When the police got wind of this, the police team caught them in action.
Udaipur SP Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, while busting the gang, revealed that five youths from Rajasthan, MP, and UP have been arrested. The police received information from an informant that a gang in the Balicha area’s Video Colony was making friends with boys and girls through Instagram and WhatsApp, deceiving them by offering dating opportunities. Upon reaching the scene based on the informant’s information, the police found five youths.
They identified themselves as Bhānu Pratāp Singh (27) from Agra, Satyam Singh (28), Rahul Vyas (26) from Karauli, Amul Ahirwar (24) from Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, and Mohit Singh (25) from Agra. The police arrested all five suspects and seized their mobile phones and tablets.
During the police interrogation, the accused made shocking revelations. They disclosed that they were preparing for competitive exams. After failing in government job exams, all the accused quickly devised a unique plan to become rich. The accused revealed that they found various ways online for fraud. Just like one needs to take membership to use OTT platforms, these youths started an online girlfriend scheme.
They advertised on social media, enticing youngsters to make friends with girls through Hello App and users on Instagram. They sent lewd photos on WhatsApp or Instagram, luring them with the promise of a date, and then deceived them. In about two months, these culprits extorted lakhs of rupees from over 200 people. Due to fear of defamation, no victim came forward.
