The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has elected Tata Steel’s Managing Director and CEO, TV Narendran, as its new chairman, marking him as the second Indian to hold the position after JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, who was elected in 2021. The announcement was made by the global body on Tuesday.
Ugur Dalbeler of Colakoglu Metalurji AS and Leon Topalian, President and CEO of Nucor Corporation, have been selected as Vice Chairs of the association, which is based in Brussels.
In addition to his new role as chairman, Narendran has also joined the 17-member Executive Committee. Other notable members include Sajjan Jindal, ArcelorMittal’s Executive Chairman LN Mittal, Leon Topalian, and Ugur Dalbeler.
Who is TV Narendran?
TV Narendran has been a part of Tata Steel since 1988, where he has held various key roles, such as Vice President of the Safety and Flat Products divisions, and Managing Director of Tata Steel India and Southeast Asia. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Tata Tiscon brand and expanding its distribution network. Currently, he serves as the Global CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel, one of the largest steel manufacturers globally. Narendran holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
