Kamala Harris has strongly brought out the contrast between her vision of America’s future and that of Donald Trump, stating that he seeks to take the country backward. On learning that she won the democratic ticket for presidency to compete against Trump in the elections, she posted on social media how proud she was of this progress and her resolve to defeat him.

Harris joined in celebration of the broad support that lifted her to victory, nodding toward the significant role that the delegation from her home state played. “When I announced my campaign for President, I said I intended to go out and earn this nomination. “Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support necessary to be our party’s nominee, and as a daughter of California, I’m proud that my home state’s delegation put our campaign over the top. I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon,” Harris said.

She thanked President Joe Biden for trusting her and allowing her to join the ticket. She thanked the Democratic Party and promised to take her case directly to the American people. “This election will offer a real choice between two very different visions,” she said, drawing a contrast with Trump. “Donald Trump wants to take our country backward—one in which many of us didn’t enjoy the full freedoms and equal rights that we have today. I believe in an America that strengthens our democracy, instead of weakening it; that protects reproductive freedom, instead of criminalizing women and doctors; and guarantees every person the opportunity to get ahead—not just to get by, but to get ahead.”

Looking ahead, Harris outlined what her plan would be to unify the Democratic Party and the country. “In the next months, I’ll travel across this country and I’ll talk with Americans about everything that’s on the line,” she said, continuing to hammer home just how important it was that Trump be defeated in November.

Democratic officials are expected to finalize Harris as the nominee by August 7. The massive endorsement for her indicates a strategic move by the Democrats to gather behind a candidate who can well challenge Trump. To that end, the upcoming Democratic National Convention is going to be a defining moment through which Harris will be formally endorsed as the party’s nominee, thereby sealing her status for the general election.

Harris has run a campaign of unity, shared values, and coalition-building to meet the challenges and goals of the nation. Now, given President Biden’s announcement that he will run for full service of his term, and there isn’t any major opponent for the seat in that election, the campaign has reported record-breaking USD 81 million raised within the first 24 hours, underlining wide support. If she were to become the Democratic nominee, Harris would be the first Black woman and Asian American to lead a major party’s presidential ticket.
