Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray suffered a fresh setback on Thursday after six Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MPs skipped the party’s parliamentary party meeting despite being issued whips.

The meeting was held at the party office in Parliament House. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, along with Lok Sabha MPs Anil Desai, Arvind Sawant and Rajabhau Prakash Vaze, attended the meeting.

After the rebel MPs failed to turn up, Raut said show-cause notices had been issued to all six absentees, asking them to respond within seven days and explain why they did not attend the meeting. He also questioned whether they had been kidnapped or whether their lives were in danger.

“This time, what the six MPs have done will cost them dearly. They will not be able to go home without security and without the help of the Army. This time, Shiv Sena workers and the people will teach them a lesson for betrayal,” Raut said.

Uddhav Thackeray also called during the meeting to seek details about the developments.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MP Arvind Sawant said the six MPs had been given seven days to respond to the show-cause notices.

Meanwhile, sources close to the six rebel MPs said they have maintained that the whip does not apply to them, as two-thirds of the party’s MPs are together and have formed a separate group before the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The six rebel MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray faction are Sanjay Dina Patil, Sanjay Deshmukh, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar, Omraje Nimbalkar, Bhausaheb Vakchoure and Sanjay Jadhav.
