Mahua Moitra is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress, representing Krishnanagar, West Bengal, in the 17th Lok Sabha. For the past few years, she has been the AITC’s general secretary and national secretary.
Mahua Moitra joined the Indian National Congress in 2008. She put in a lot of effort and progressed quickly, becoming a well-known leader in West Bengal. She likes being recognised and moved up the ranks, but she disliked when Congress used to make compromises with the Left. She left the Congress at that time, and in 2010, she joined the All-India Trinamool Congress.
She had left the West Bengal following, which allowed her to advance quickly in TMC. She was chosen to serve as TMC’s general secretary and spokesman. She was declared the TMC’s candidate for the Karimpur seat in West Bengal in 2016. She was appointed as an MNA after winning the 2016 Assembly Elections. After the 2019 elections, she became a Member of Parliament from Krishnanagar.
Mahua Moitra filed a police report on January 10, 2017, alleging that Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Union Minister Babul Supiryo had insulted her modesty during a national debate on television. Later, the complaint was dismissed by the Calcutta High Court. Following that, Tapas Paul and Saugata Roy received legal letters from Babul Pupriyo for allegedly defaming him after accusing him of taking part in the Rose Valley company scam. According to reports, Moitra smacked a female police officer on August 3 at the Assam airport, leading to her arrest there. She was denied boarding her trip to Kolkata that evening, but she left the next day with a complaint against her already filed.
