The police announced on Tuesday the arrest of a terrorist believed to be responsible for the recent attack on migrant workers from Punjab in Srinagar, which resulted in fatalities.
Addressing a press conference, ADGP Vijay Kumar and IGP V K Bidri revealed that the police managed to crack the case within a mere six days, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator behind the Srinagar attack.

Detailing the incident, they recounted, “On 07.02.2024, at about 1900 hours, unknown terrorists opened fire upon two persons at Shalla Kadal, Shaheed Gunj Srinagar. In this incident, one Amritpal Singh succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while another individual, Rohit Masi, later succumbed to his injuries on 08.02.2024.”

Following the incident, a case was registered (FIR no. 08/2024) under various sections including IPC and Arms Act. Through meticulous investigation, the police managed to identify and apprehend the main accused, Adil Manzoor Langoo, who was found to have conspired with his handler in Pakistan for the execution of the terrorist act.

According to the authorities, the accused was radicalized and motivated through social media channels by his handler across the border. The handler provided him with the weapon used in the attack and instructed him on the targets. Subsequently, the accused identified and attacked the victims in the lanes of Shalla Kadal.
The press conference also highlighted the claim of responsibility by the LeT affiliate TR on social media.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by SP South, has been constituted by DIG CKR to further investigate the case. Responding to inquiries, ADGP Vijay Kumar provided insights into the current security scenario, stating that there is only one active terrorist left in Srinagar district, while approximately 25 locals and 25-30 foreign terrorists remain active in Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasized the continuous efforts of the J&K Police and other security agencies to ensure the region remains free from terrorism, with a commitment to intensify anti-militancy operations in the future.
