Final countdown for the Khelo India Youth Games starting from 4 June has begun and Haryana government and senior officials are on their toes for its successful conduct.
As many as 25 sports events will be organized during the event, including five traditional games like Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta, Malkhamb and Yogasana.
These events will be organized at five venues – Panchkula, Ambala, Shahabad, Chandigarh and Delhi.
On May 7, a mascot and logo of Khelo India Youth Games would be launched at Indradhanush Auditorium in Panchkula, and the launching ceremony will be conducted the same day in Tau Devilal Stadium, Panchkula, in the presence of Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Thakur and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal. The opening ceremony will be held on June 4.
More than 8,000 athletes will participate in this festival. A graffiti wall along with a selfie point will be set up at the venues and renowned tourist destinations of the cities where these games are scheduled to be organized.
Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Haryana and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department Amit Agrawal, while chairing a review meeting with stakeholders and officers, said that Khelo India Youth Games will be special for Haryana in many ways.
Therefore, adequate arrangements for providing the required facilities to both the participants and spectators should be ensured.
Special invitations have been sent to renowned folk artists to perform in every sports event scheduled to be held from June 4 to June 13.
These artists will mirror the culture of Haryana. A dedicated vehicle displaying a torch and mascot will tour the state to promote Khelo India Youth Games. The Khelo India Youth Games will be jointly organized by the state government and Sports Authority of India (SAI), Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
