A Sudanese national, Osama Ali Yusuf Ahmed, aged 22, has been arrested by the Aurangabad police over accusations of enticing individuals to convert to Islam.
Ahmed, who arrived on a student visa in October 2022 and was pursuing commerce studies at a local college in Aurangabad, is now facing legal action following a complaint filed against him.
According to the registered complaint, Ahmed purportedly invited two 15-year-old boys to his residence in HUDCO Aurangabad on Thursday night. The teenagers alleged that upon entering, Ahmed locked the door and commenced reciting from a book, urging them to repeat his words. When the boys declined, it is claimed that Ahmed allegedly used a wire to whip them. The alarmed youngsters managed to escape and promptly reported the incident to their families.
Subsequently, the father of one of the children approached the City Chowk Police Station, expressing concern that the Sudanese national was compelling the children to convert to Islam. In response, a case was filed against Ahmed, leading to his arrest.
Presently, Ahmed is facing charges of wrongful restraint and Section 14B of the Foreigners Act. The City Chowk Police Station is actively investigating the allegations of forced conversion.
Moreover, the Anti-Terrorism Squad is delving into Ahmed’s background, and he has been remanded to police custody by a local court until December 23. The authorities are diligently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the potential motives behind the alleged acts of proselytization.
